about
"The Things I Keep" is a new song for the holidays that will make as much sense in Schenectady as Sioux Falls and Santa Monica. It was written for the kids at our school to perform and to sell as a charity for a Music program (remember those?) for the kids. All proceeds from this sale will go to the school for Music. So buy often and recommend to your pals! And happy holidays, with love from us to you.
lyrics
See the light in the door of my grandparents' house
all my cousins already upstairs
my grandfather reads from the paper out loud
to my uncle asleep in the chair
and my sister's so excited
that she talks all day long
'til we're all about ready to blow
and I duck in the kitchen,
my great-aunts are there
and one fixes a look and says "go!"
and the toys they all brought
sit waiting and wrapped just for me
these are the things that I keep
well, the turkey got burnt
and our dog ate the cake
and then threw it up all down the hall
so my aunt and I got donuts
and we sang the whole way
though we didn't know half the songs
and the toys they all brought
sit waiting and wrapped just for me
these are the things that I keep
the clock marks the minutes until we're asleep
brightest face greeting the dawn
soon paper in piles and toys all in heaps
there's no stopping the ride once we're on
see the light in the door of my grandpa's new place
and I'm dizzy from driving all day
I gave some old toys to my sister this year
I can still see the look on her face
and everyone I've ever loved
is laughing in my memory
these are the things that I keep
these are the things that I keep
See the light in the door of my grandparents' house...
